Strep Throat Mono & Flu Testing

Service Description

Strep throat, mononucleosis (mono), and influenza (flu) are all infections that can cause similar symptoms such as a sore throat and fever. While a rapid strep test or throat culture can confirm the presence of strep A bacteria, other tests are needed to diagnose mono and flu. Mono testing typically involves a blood test to detect antibodies against the Epstein-Barr virus, which causes mono. Flu testing can be done using a respiratory sample to detect the flu virus through various methods such as rapid influenza diagnostic tests (RIDTs), reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), and viral culture. These tests help determine the appropriate treatment and prevent the spread of infection.
